- Check to see if the tree is already dead; You can do this by taking off a piece of bark and examining the color underneath (other signs of a dead tree include the growth of fungi such as mushrooms, peeling bark, cavities in the trunk, hanging branches, or twigs that no longer leaf out or flower in the spring)
- Evidence of root defects, if the tree is leaning to one side, if the tree seems to be hollow, or if it is too close to your house or nearby power lines, it’s time to call for removal!
- Hire an arborist to inspect the tree and provide an estimate for its removal
